POLICE in Ndola have arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly murdering his wife after he found her with another man in their matrimonial home.
The incident happened on Saturday in Geoffrey village near Tug-Argan Barracks after Milton Munsanje found his wife, Lydia Mahumbi, 29, with another man when he went back home from a drinking spree.
Copperbelt commissioner of police Mary Tembo confirmed the incident in an interview.
Ms Tembo said Munsanje went home around 21:00 hours from drinking a local illicit brew Kachasu when he found his wife with Ferry Mwape from Foloko village.
“Munsanje got furious when he found his wife with another man in the matrimonial home and started beating up Mwape who ran away.
He later descended on his wife and beat her to death,” Ms Tembo said.
She said Ms Mahumbi was only discovered dead on her bed around 06:00 hours by her mother, Ruth Mahumbi, who went to the deceased’s house to ask for money to pay for her grandchild’s school fees.
Ms Tembo said upon discovering that her daughter had died, the deceased’s mother quickly reported the matter to the police who found cuts on Ms Mahumbi’s head and legs.
“The suspect is currently in police custody and he will appear in court soon,” she said.
