A Zambia Kasama High Court Judge is dismayed at the increasing cases of bestiality.
This was when the court sentenced a Mpika man to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for having carnal knowledge of a goat and leaving it paralysed.
In sentencing Felix Kampamba, 32, a peasant farmer, Judge Emelia Sunkutu said punitive measures needed to be taken to deter others from behaving in a similar manner.
Ms Justice Sunkutu said Kampamba’s behaviour was shocking and an affront to society.
“You behaved like an animal and your behaviour is an affront to public morals. You pounced on a helpless goat despite there being many women in society you could propose to,” said the annoyed judge.
The owner of the she-goat, Alice Mwansa told the court that she was on May 15, 2012 in the field gathering firewood near her home when she heard a distress cry from the goat.
Upon investigation, Ms Mwansa found Kampamba who had spread out a piece of sack on the ground stark-naked having carnal knowledge of her goat.
After being accosted, Kampamba gathered his clothes and pair of shoes he had earlier discarded and bolted from the scene.
The she-goat was left lying on the sack looking tired and paralysed from Kampamba’s rigorous action and failed to stand on its four legs.
Ms Mwansa was forced to strap the goat to her body and carried it to a police station before proceeding to the veterinary’s office to have the goat attended to.
The veterinary officer in his report confirmed that a human being had carnal knowledge of the goat and human semen was found in the goat’s reproductive tract.
Despite plea from his Legal Aid Board lawyer Japhet Zulu who said Kampamba was a first offender who deserved the court’s leniency, Ms Justice Sunkutu said punitive measures were necessary in Kampamba’s case.

After chicken feathers and blood were found all over a room at a Valparaiso Motel, Valparaiso police were called to investigate.
The room was found to have been rented to Michael Bessigano, a 30-year-old Valparaiso man with a history of harming and having sex with animals.
Police questioned Bessigano and said he admitted having had s*x with a chicken. Bessigano was booked into Porter County Jail on a felony animal cruelty charge. "Because this is the third crime against animals he's been charged with, he is also being charged as a habitual offender," said Chief Deputy Prosecutor Brian Gensel.
He faces up to 7 1/2 years in prison if convicted of both charges. "He's got problems and hopefully he will be getting some help," said Valparaiso Detective Lt. Mike Brickner. "He has these urges that need to be addressed." Brickner said Bessigano stole a chicken from a chicken farm, took the chicken to his motel room which he'd just rented that one night, and plucked its feathers so he could have s*x with it. Bessigano then had s*x with the animal and it died, Brickner said.
Although Bessigano has been out of jail since January, police said this is his first run-in with the law this year. "There's no indication he's done this (animal abuse) recently prior to that night," Brickner said. The owner of the motel told police he had no idea Bessigano was a convicted animal abuser. Motel officials discovered the blood and feathers when they went to clean the room. Bessigano's animal abuse dates back to 2005 when he was arrested twice, once after being accused of breaking a rooster's neck and once after he was found in a neighbor's goose pen apparently attempting to molest the geese. He was also accused of having sex with and killing a Rottweiler dog at a rural Crown Point ranch in 2007. He was convicted of theft and cruelty to an animal, and was imprisoned until 2009. A month after his release, he was arrested in connection with the attempted theft of a German Shepherd dog from some property in St. John Township.
He was returned to prison, then was transferred to prison psychiatric care. He spent time behind bars after he was charged with biting a health care provider at Logansport's psychiatric unit in 2012. He was released on probation in January and had been living with a family member in Valparaiso. He was accused of having s*x with a chicken last month, Bessigano has said he slept with dead animals, including a raccoon, when he was a child. While in jail, he would sleep under his cot, paint cat-like stripes on his body and make drawings referring to himself as "master of cats." A complete nutter
