As it's revealed that the £97K Calvin Klein dress worn by Lupita Nyong'o to the Oscars 2015 has been stolen, we run through the most expensive dresses to ever be worn on the Academy Awards red carpet. From Cate Blanchett in Armani Privé to Grace Kelly in a gown designed by Edith Head, here are the top 10 most eye-wateringly pricey Oscar dresses ever...

1. Grace Kelly, 1955
Cost: £4,000
It may not seem much by today's standards, but the aquamarine silk column dress worn by Grace Kelly to accept her Best Actress gong at the 1955 ceremony set the bar for expensive Oscar dresses. Designed by Edith Head, Grace had actually already worn the simple gown a year earlier at the New York premiere of The Country Girl. It goes down as one of the most-loved Oscar looks in history.

2. Keira Knightley, 2006
Cost: Around $39K
The custom-made taffeta Vera Wang gown, featuring a classic fishtail, worn by Keira made history - not just because it was so beautiful - and it was, but because she later donated it to Oxfam which auctioned it for £4,300. Oh, and that Bulgari necklace needs a mention. Love.

3. Cate Blanchett, 2014
Cost: $100K
Cate's entire Oscars 2014 look, including the gown, the shoes and the jewellery, came to a whopping $18.1 million. The stunning nude Armani Privé creation was embellished with hundreds of Swarovski crystals and cost $100,000 alone. Amazing.

4. Cate Blanchett, 2007
Cost: $200K
Stepping out in another breath-takingly expensive Armani Privé gown encrusted with Swarovski crystals, this gun metal gray, one-shoulder dress was worth a reported $200,000. To put the price of this into context, most couture dresses will cost between $5K and $20,000.

5. Kate Winslet, 2007
Cost: Almost $100K
The mint-green Valentino creation Kate wore to the 2007 Academy Awards was reportedly worth around a hundred thousand dollars and was picked out by her daughter, Mia. Girl's got taste.

6. Charlize Theron, 2013
Cost: Around $100K
This simple, structured gown was a perfect slice of Dior Couture. Though worth around $100K on its own, the Harry Winston diamond cuffs added about $4 million to the value of the entire look. Cripes.

7. Sandra Bullock
Cost: $40,000
The actress, who was Oscar-nominated for her role in Gravity, won praise across the board for this midnight-blue Alexander McQueen gown, which cost a staggering forty thousand dollars. So simple, but so effective.

8. Anne Hathaway, 2011
Cost: $80,000
This was the year Anne Hathaway and James Franco did a cringe-tastic job of hosting the Academy Awards. But let's not allow that to overshadow the striking letterbox-red Valentino gown she chose for her red carpet entrance. Or, the Tiffany & Co. 'Lucinda' necklace she accessorised it with that cost a staggering ten million dollars.

9. Jessica Biel, 2014
Cost: $100K
It may look simple, but this beaded Chanel creation was worth $100K. Stunning!

10. Nicole Kidman, 1997
Cost: $2m
Now, one of the most iconic Oscar dresses of all time. Nicole pushed boundaries when she wore the chartreuse chinoiserie-embroidered John Galliano for Christian Dior dress at the 1997 Academy Awards and made Galliano the red carpet king. The actress was reportedly paid $2m to wear the dress and other John Galliano creations throughout the year.

Now feast your eyes over the 63 most beautiful Oscar dresses of all time.
