Drama unraveled at a church in Thika on Sunday after an elderly church elder was ambushed by church leaders and pastors holding cash amounting Sh. 150,000 from the church’s tithe contribution.
For months the church was experiencing a shortage in the tithes against the previous months and this was alarming. The pastors suspected the church’s accountant and this led to an investigation being launched in the church secretly.
Pastors and church elders hired an outsider to investigate the shortage and after weeks of following the proceedings from where envelops are placed for congregates to put in their tithe to the accountants office and receipting of the tithes, a thread was determined.
The accountant always receipted the tithes for congregates who offered tithes above Sh. 5,000. The investigator finally gave a report to the church leaders a month ago and told them that his suspicions are all pointing to Mr. Michael Musyomi the church finance leader.
The leaders just rubbed off the suspicions and told the investigator that the elderly man was the most trust worth church elder and he would never steal from the church.
A month down the line the decrease in tithe continued leading to church activities being jeopardized as the church membership was increasing thus they needed more money to fund church activities.
On Sunday the elders took the initiative to investigate the man though it was hard considering what would happen if they were wrong. They cornered Musyomi at the accountants desk where he was opening the tithe envelops and receipting the tithes.
They then forced the man to open his leather briefcase which was on his laps asking; the man became bewildered and told the men he would not open it since he has done nothing wrong.
One of the elders managed to overpower him and grabbed his brief case; the elders were in total shock when money in one thousand notes fell from his bible.
They say forgiveness is the key and sure enough the elders forgave the man even though he had stolen Sh. 150,000 out of the Sh. 450,000 contributed by the congregates.
It is still unclear whether the elder will be seen in the church again after the shameful revelation.
